Ideas for Lenten Penances

A lot of good ideas here:  livepage.apple.com

What about:

Going Vegan? (All Catholics were required to do this for the whole of Lent until 1914 when the law was changed because of the war, and never reimposed afterwards)

More prayer (weekday Mass, Rosary)

Reading a spiritual or theological book.

Read a book of the Bible from beginning to end, carefully. How about St Paul to the Romans?

Making Mass more prayerful (also for neighbours!) by not talking before, or not leaving early.

Doing what your husband or wife wants without complaining or arguing.

Changing your favourite supermarket.

Eating up all the food in your freezer before buying more (other than staples)

Getting regular exercise.

One meal a day.
